Juicy Words

We've been working hard to expand our vocabulary and kids have even started bringing words that they've encountered at home to add to our Juicy Words Watermelon!  We play games several times a week where I give them clues about a word and they have to guess it.  They also work hard to use these words when speaking or writing and are on the lookout for them during reading.  They are really into this and every time I define a "big" word for them, they say "Ooooo, that sounds like a juicy word....let's add it to the chart!!!"  :)

Tree map about cute! of my girls made a tree map at home all about me!  So adorable!  I love when they take ownership of what they've learned in class and use it at home!

Tooth Fairies and Tree Maps

Our tooth tree maps and tooth fairies for our study of Dental Health.  These are the "boy" tooth fairies!  So cute and they all loved doing it!

Peace Week!

Our Peace Dove from Peace Week!  I absolutely love it!!  I found the design for free at

Each student worked on one or two pieces with water colors.  I'm already making plans to improve it for next year....more pastel colors and rainbow outlines!!

Shared Journals for Work on Writing

I love 1st grader writing!!
I write back and forth with my students in our shared journals.  They get so excited to see what I will say.  It's such a great way for them to use writing in a practical sense and view it as a communication tool!

Working on Writing

I absolutely LOVE my shared writing journals that are in my Work on Writing station.  The students really enjoy sharing their stories.  I make comments or write back to them and they get very excited to see what I will say.  It's so fun to read about their lives and watch writing improve throughout the year.
I'd really like to get more primary Work on Writing ideas, so post away!!  Thanks!!  Jennifer
